Best Startup UI/UX Design Agencies (2026)

The short answer

Eleken, MetaLab and Lazarev.agency head this list. Eleken works only on SaaS products and places a dedicated designer with a startup on a monthly plan. MetaLab joins founders at concept or MVP stage, as it did when an AI automation startup came to it to design its first product. Lazarev.agency works with growth-stage AI startups, Series A and later, on product UX, marketing sites and investor demos.

A startup buys UX design under conditions an established company rarely faces. The product may not exist yet and the runway is measured in months, while the founder still makes most of the decisions. The seven firms below take that work in different ways. Some place designers with a startup by the month, some run a short sprint to test an idea before anything is built, and others design and build the first version in one team.

The ranking weighs evidence of work with early-stage or growth-stage companies on each firm's own site, how research and validation fit into a short timeline, whether the engagement model suits a small team with a fixed budget, and how openly each firm states its prices.

Methodology

Everything here comes from the agencies' own websites: case studies, service pages, about pages and pricing pages. To be included, a firm had to show product design work for young companies, such as an MVP, a pre-launch app or a redesign ahead of a funding round. Where a firm doesn't state a startup focus, we describe only what its site shows. We compared the stage each firm joins at, from idea validation to post-launch scaling, and the evidence that research or testing came before the build. We looked at the engagement model, whether a monthly designer, a fixed sprint or a full design and development team, because that decides how a startup pays. Prices are listed only where a firm publishes them.

Subscription product design for SaaS companies since 2015

Eleken, founded in 2015, is a distributed design team from Kyiv that works only on SaaS products and sells design as a monthly subscription. Each client gets a dedicated designer who talks to the founder or product team directly, with no project manager in the middle, while UI and UX leads and a head of design review the work. New designers complete a three-month UX training program before taking on clients. The case library includes a redesign for Datawisp, a no-code data analysis platform, at seed stage, MVP design for Floret and for the caregiving product FlourishON, and work on Bering Lab's translation tool ahead of its pre-Series A round. The site lists complex B2B, AI, data, geospatial and low-code apps as specialties, and new clients start with a three-day free trial.

Covers

Product design, UX/UI design, MVP design, redesigns, design systems

Ideal client

SaaS startups that want a dedicated product designer on a monthly plan without a project manager in between

Notable clients

Datawisp, Floret, Bering Lab

Not the right fit when: The work fits in less than two months; Eleken's minimum contract is two months.

Product and interface design studio with work from startup to Fortune 500

Andrew Wilkinson started MetaLab in 2006, and the studio, which concentrates on product and interface design, now belongs to his holding company, Tiny. Its work page presents a range from startups to Fortune 500 clients, and several of its startup cases begin before a product exists. Bardeen, an AI automation startup, came to MetaLab in its early days to conceive and design its first MVP. The studio worked with Otter while the company was still called AISense, shaped the brand and product for PlayerZero, and conceived a financial management startup from the ground up with its founding team. It also delivered an MVP and product roadmap for a back-office platform serving the creator economy. MetaLab has 160 people.

Covers

Product design, interface design, MVP design, brand identity, websites

Ideal client

Venture-backed founders who need a first product, brand and MVP designed alongside the founding team

Notable clients

Bardeen, Otter, PlayerZero

Not the right fit when: The product only needs small UI fixes; MetaLab's startup cases begin at concept, prototype or MVP.

AI product UX and Webflow sites for startups and enterprises

Lazarev.agency dates from 2015 and designs products for AI-native B2B platforms. The homepage pitch to startups speaks to growth-stage companies, Series A and above, where one designer is still carrying the whole product, and offers to step in as an extended design team that firms up the flows and produces a marketing site and an investor-ready demo. The case list spans stages, from the pre-seed AI marketing platform Fieldstream to a website redesign for the logistics company Nimble at Series C. Research and usability testing are available as standalone services, sites are built in Webflow, and the team has 40+ members. Webby recognition runs from Accern in 2024 to Elva in 2026.

Product UX for complex B2B and AI software, from MVP to scale

Cieden was founded by the siblings Yuriy Mykhasyak and Iryna Serednia and has a team of 50 that has delivered 200 projects, working remotely with clients across time zones. Its focus is complex software: B2B SaaS products from MVP to scale, AI-native products such as copilots and conversational interfaces, and internal enterprise tools. Startup work on its SaaS page includes a redesign for Sitenna, a Y Combinator-backed B2B SaaS company in the UK, and product design for Gridics, a real estate tech startup. Cieden also redesigned the account-based marketing MVP of RevvedUp so it could scale. It publishes prices, including a two-week design sprint in which prototypes are tested with real users.

Covers

UX/UI design, design sprints, UX audits, AI prototyping, web app development

Ideal client

B2B SaaS and AI startups that need an MVP designed, tested in a design sprint and then scaled

Notable clients

Sitenna, Gridics, RevvedUp

Not the right fit when: The brief is a brand identity package or a cosmetic website refresh; Cieden's FAQ says other firms suit those better.

Design and development studio with a dedicated startup web design service

Halo Lab is a design and development studio with 120 full-time professionals and 500+ completed projects over 13 years. It runs separate design, development and marketing teams, and its services move from a product discovery phase of one to two weeks through SaaS and mobile app design, MVP development and AI integration, with a dedicated startup web design page alongside. For Ahlya, a cycle-syncing wellness app created by a solo founder in the UK, Halo Lab took the product from concept and competitor research through UX architecture, a UI design system and a React Native build to release on the App Store and Google Play. The founder and CEO of Relocate Now is quoted on the site about the custom UX/UI it designed for the company's software.

Covers

Product discovery, UX/UI design, mobile app design, MVP development, startup web design

Ideal client

Founders who need product discovery, UX/UI and development from one team to reach a first launch

Notable clients

Ahlya, Relocate Now, Omnibuds

Not the right fit when: The budget is under $5,000; Halo Lab's project minimum is $5,000.

Product design and development consultancy with a public playbook

thoughtbot runs small teams of designers and developers who work closely with clients, and its about page sorts them by product stage: early-stage validation and product strategy, design and build for a complex MVP or first version, and team and process improvement as a product scales. The Joydrive case follows that order. A product design sprint and expert interviews tested the online car-buying business model before any code was written, an MVP followed, and thoughtbot then acted as Joydrive's CTO partner through its Super Bowl commercial launch. The product design practice lists market and customer validation, user interviews and shaping sprints, and its designers also work on finance and insurance products. The company publishes its Playbook and Handbook, which set out how it builds web and mobile products.

Covers

Product design sprints, user research, MVP development, Ruby on Rails development, team augmentation

Ideal client

Founders and product teams that want a design sprint, an MVP and engineering from the same small team

Notable clients

Joydrive, Teikametrics, Vestmark

Not the right fit when: The need is visual design alone; thoughtbot's designers work inside teams that also build and ship the software.

UI/UX, branding and pitch deck design since 2016

Arounda has designed digital products since 2016, and its site counts 500+ businesses served and 50+ team members. Its portfolio is sorted by industry, with fintech, healthcare, Web3, SaaS and AI as the main groups, and many of its cases pair branding with UI/UX. For FundedIQ, a prop trading platform based in the UAE, Arounda ran discovery and competitor analysis, then delivered brand identity, graphic design and UI/UX as one visual system across the product, landing page, social media and print. For Piko Health in Portugal, it designed the brand, landing page and web app, using simple indicators in place of dense data displays. The portfolio also includes pitch deck work, and the about page quotes founders of MYSO Finance and BehindTitles.

Covers

UI/UX design, brand identity, web design, mobile app design, pitch decks

Ideal client

Fintech, healthcare and Web3 products that need brand identity and UI/UX designed as one system

Notable clients

FundedIQ, Piko Health, MYSO Finance

Not the right fit when: The product sits outside fintech, healthcare, SaaS, AI and Web3, the main industries Arounda's portfolio is sorted by.

Where a design sprint fits before an MVP

Early products often stall on an assumption nobody tested. A sprint of one or two weeks puts a clickable prototype in front of real users before engineers write code, and it's the cheapest point to learn that onboarding confuses people or that the core feature solves the wrong problem. thoughtbot's Joydrive case followed this order: a design sprint and expert interviews first, the MVP second. Cieden publishes a price for its two-week sprint. The useful output is a short list of decisions the test changed.

A monthly designer and a scoped project buy different things

A subscription model, such as Eleken's, gives a startup a designer who joins the team's rhythm and works through a changing backlog, which suits a product that ships weekly. A scoped project fixes the deliverables and the date, which suits a funding milestone or a launch. Neither is cheaper by default. The monthly route can cost more over a year, but there's no new contract every time priorities move; the scoped route caps spend but makes changes slower and more formal. Many startups use a sprint or project to reach a first version, then move to monthly support.

What a startup UX engagement includes and costs

Startup UX work usually begins with discovery or a design sprint to test the riskiest assumption, then moves to user flows, wireframes, a clickable prototype tested with real users and a small component library engineers can build from. Some engagements continue into development and launch. Five of the seven firms on this list publish a price or a minimum. Eleken charges $4,599 a month for a part-time dedicated designer, $6,599 for a full-time designer and $11,999 for two, with a two-month minimum. Cieden lists project work from $50 an hour, a two-week design sprint from $7,000 and a UX audit from $2,000. Halo Lab starts projects at $5,000, Arounda's typical projects start at $6,000, and the floor at Lazarev.agency is $50,000+. MetaLab and thoughtbot quote per project. The main cost drivers are the number of user flows, whether research and testing are included, and whether the same team builds the product.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a startup budget for UX design?

Five of the seven firms here publish a price or a minimum. Eleken's dedicated designer plans run from $4,599 a month part-time to $11,999 a month for two full-time designers, and Cieden prices a two-week design sprint from $7,000. Halo Lab's projects start at $5,000 and Arounda's typical project at $6,000, while Lazarev.agency sets its minimum at $50,000+. MetaLab and thoughtbot quote per project. Budgets differ widely between a validation sprint, a full MVP design and an MVP that's designed and built.

How long does it take to design a startup MVP?

The calendar depends on how much is known before design starts. A discovery phase or design sprint takes one to two weeks at Halo Lab and Cieden. Flows, wireframes, testing and visual design for a focused first version usually follow over several weeks, and a build adds more. thoughtbot's Joydrive case ran a design sprint before any code, then the MVP, then launch support, which shows the order even where the dates differ.

When should a startup bring in a UX agency?

The most common points are before the first build, when a sprint can test the core idea cheaply, and after early traction, when one designer can no longer cover the product. Lazarev.agency's homepage pitch to startups is written for the second case, aimed at Series A teams whose single designer carries every flow. Before that point, a short validation sprint usually fits the budget and the stage.

Do startups need user research before building an MVP?

Some research, yes, though it can be small. A handful of interviews with likely users and one round of prototype testing catch many of the problems in onboarding and the core task. Arounda's case pages start with discovery and competitor analysis, and Halo Lab's Ahlya project began with competitor research before UX architecture. The point is to find the riskiest assumption and test it first.

Can a UX agency help a startup prepare for fundraising?

Several here list investor-facing work. Lazarev.agency offers investor-ready demos as part of its startup service, Arounda's portfolio includes pitch deck design, and Eleken's case library ties several redesigns to seed and pre-Series A rounds. A clickable prototype tested with real users shows an investor that the product works for the people it's meant for.

Is a design subscription a good fit for an early-stage startup?

It suits a startup that ships often and wants a designer inside its weekly rhythm. Eleken's model works this way, with a dedicated designer, direct contact and a three-day free trial before the two-month minimum. It suits less well a company that needs a defined deliverable by a fixed date, such as a prototype for a funding round, where a scoped sprint or project caps the cost.
